YPI is a program that teaches high school students how to strengthen support for local social issues by empowering them to determine where grant dollars would be best put to use in their own communities. YPI provides $5000 to be given to a charity that is chosen by the students.
Students in grade 10 Religion classes at Sacred Heart High School had the opportunity to participate in the Youth Philanthropy Initiative (YPI) project this year. YPI is a program that teaches high school students how to strengthen support for local social issues by empowering them to determine where grant dollars would be best put to use in their own communities. YPI provides $5000 to be given to a charity that is chosen by the students.
YPI has modified their grant process by allowing schools to divide the grant money so that more organizations could be impacted by this program. The leadership team for YPI at Sacred Heart felt that dividing the grant money was a great choice and the impact for the winning charities would be spread out. Sacred Heart High School is able to provide $2500 to each of the following charities:
- Hanover Launch Pad- represented by Karina, Colleen and Abbi
- The Walkerton Food Bank- represented by Cam and Cole
Thank you to all of the charities for their time and effort and to the students who helped to bring attention to the social issues in our communities through this project. After the presentations this year, SHHS has contributed $10, 000 to local charities through the YPI Program and 5 charities have been represented by our students. Congratulations SHHS!
